Michael Lang, co-founder of Woodstock, has announced that he will stage his own tribute concert on the 50th anniversary of the legendary festival.

While a concert arranged by the Bethel Woods Center For The Arts is already planned to take place at the 15,000-seat venue which currently resides on the site of the 1969 event, Lang claims his event, earmarked for Watkins Glen International speedway in New York in partnership with the original Woodstock producers, will be the ‘only authorized commemoration of the iconic 1969 festival’.

“The Woodstock 50th Anniversary will be about sharing an experience with great artists and encouraging people to get educated and involved in the social issues impacting everyone on the planet,” Lang continues (via Billboard).

“It’s so inspiring to see young people today channeling their passion into causes they care about. That’s something that’s always been a part of Woodstock’s mission, and it’s a big focus at the 50th festival.”
