The Strypes have announced they are splitting up after a three album career which began in 2013 with Snapshot.

With the release of that debut LP, the band added to a bumper period of young musicians, led then by Jake Bugg, extolling the enduring virtues of old-time rock and roll, but have struggled to commercially build on that start with the follow-ups Little Victories of 2015 and last year’s Spitting Image.

“Over the past seven years we have played in toilets and theatres, in cafes and castles, from Scotshouse to Tokyo and back again,” they’ve written on social media.

“We’ve been in bedrooms and buses, planes, trains and automobiles. We’ve been on telly, on radio and on record. It’s been fun and exciting, dull and dangerous, easy, tough, frustrating, satisfying and amazing. It’s been a life and a living.”

“But we’ve decided to call time on The Strypes. Thank you all.”
