Stormzy has been confirmed as the first Pyramid Stage headliner for Glastonbury 2019 not long after co-organiser Emily Eavis dropped some big hints about this first bit of news.

Speaking at BBC Music Introducing Live last weekend, she said the event’s Friday headliner ‘hasn’t had a stage like this before’. “We have got one of the artists that I’m most excited about in Britain right now,” she continued. “This to me is going to be a moment. And he can become the enormous person that he is.”

Most people decided she was talking about Stormzy, and that was duly confirmed yesterday. The Brit Award winner is set to conclude the festival’s first day when it returns from a year off next June, with Paul McCartney strongly tipped to fill another headliner’s spot. “Very happy to confirm Stormzy as our first headliner for next year,” Eavis said yesterday on the Glastonbury website.

“He’s one of the most exciting British artists to come along in years and after seeing him play here in 2017 we knew next time he had to come back and headline the Pyramid. See you there Friday night!”
