Live4ever Presents: Honey Moon

Honey Moon

Dan Hipkin

Who?

Jack – Vocals / Guitar
Zach – Guitar / Vocals
Joey – Bass / Vocals
Sam – Drums

Where?

Jack: Birmingham, Bristol, London and Portsmouth respectively. London collectively.

Why?

Jack: Zach and I started writing together pretty much as soon as Sam introduced us. When you find your shredding compadre you simply have to follow that spicy little connection to its natural conclusion!

How?

Jack: Sam, Zach and I all met on a magical carpet ride through undergraduate study. Joe met us at a show and thought he’d get himself in on the act.

Past?

Jack: Joe sold sausages down the market, Sam used to work on boats, me at a go-kart track and Zach still has a part-time job as Denise van Outen’s PA.

Present?

Jack: We call it ‘jangly croon pop’. Roy Orbison meets Mac Demarco. That sort of thing.

Future?

Joey: To the top, Johnny!

Did you know?

Joey: We celebrated finishing the recording of the EP with a group karaoke performance of ‘The Gambler’ by Kenny Rogers in a pub up in Leeds. Went down quite well. The host for the evening was ‘DJ Spanky’ – a wonderful northern lass who we later learnt has 82 pedigree pet guinea pigs at home.

What’s next?

Jack: Next month we head out on a UK tour with Her’s. Then some recording. Then banging the eggnog, I guess.

Live4ever:

Vintage, crooner, psychedelic pop. What’s not to love? Honey Moon having been operating for a few years now, gradually building up a formidable set with three EPs in as many years. Harking back to a simpler time, their blend of wistful melodies and doo-wop vocals against a backdrop of sugary instrumentation generates a melancholic yet optimistic vibe.

Jack has a voice beyond his years while Joey Julliard comes from the Manchester school of giving the guitar room to breathe. It’s not all jangling guitar pop (although on song strength that would be enough); the disquieting Mover In The Dark has texture and is layered enough to suggest that there is much more to come.

It all adds up to a band that perfectly blends humour and intelligence to create something quite extraordinary.
