Idles On Tour: ‘Keeping Austin Weird’

IDLES

“Long live the open-minded”. It’s a message Idles are taking around the world after the release of Joy As An Act Of Resistance in August.

Encapsulated in those words is the mantra of a band who, on their second studio album, took it upon themselves to create one of the bravest pieces of music in a long time.

Using the hollow shell of masculinity as its underpinning theme, individual experience is the catalyst for both introspection on personal tragedy and extrospection on the increasingly damaging divisions in society. The result is a record which scholars can confidently look back on in years to come as the sharpest document of the human condition in 2018.

Now, let Live4ever take you back to March; pre-Joy As An Act Of Resistance we followed Idles through a day’s worth of experiences at South By Southwest in Texas. Preoccupied more with their ongoing tour essential, chocolate milk, and with obtaining the appropriate attire for a St. Patrick Day’s gig, we find a band flushed with confidence during the final stages of their preparation for a new album release.

One on the cusp of greatness as unchanged and relaxed as ever.
