It’s taken years, but with the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody now set for a UK release on October 24th, an official trailer has been revealed.

Charting Queen‘s fortunes from their formation in the early seventies to the career-rejuvenating, highly acclaimed performance at Wembley Stadium for Live Aid in 1985, the biopic first got underway back in 2011 when Sacha Baron Cohen was attached to play Mercury, only for him to later withdraw from the project due to ‘creative differences’ of  which Brian May later told the Daily Mirror that, ‘it seemed like a good idea in the beginning but the truth is, he’s too recognisable’.

“He’s very much a style and a character. I think that he would have been very distracting. That’s the conclusion we came to.”

Rami Malek subsequently took on the lead role, but there was later upheaval behind the camera too as director Bryan Singer left in 2017 to be replaced by Dexter Fletcher.

Such an exhaustive process is rarely a good sign for a film, but the trailer suggests they might have got it right in the end.
