Idles playing Live At Leeds 2018 (Gary Mather / Live4ever)

Idles have confirmed their second studio album Joy As An Act Of Resistance for release on August 31st.

After Colossus emphatically delivered on its early live promise last week, lead single Danny Nedelko is accompanying this announcement, as is a personal statement from Joe Talbot which passionately lends a voice to anyone looking on in despair at the current era and which, if any doubt is left, should be enough to get you on board with a band fast becoming one of its most important.

“Now with the second album I’ve realized that I needed to truly love myself in order to write honestly,” it concludes. “Once again, I let go of worrying about the world telling me something that I already knew: I am completely flawed…but so are you and that’s OK. We are not alone.”

“This album is an attempt to be vulnerable to our audience and to encourage vulnerability; a brave naked smile in this shitty new world. We have stripped back the songs and lyrics to our bare flesh to allow each other to breathe, to celebrate our differences, and act as an ode to communities and the individuals that forge them. Because without our community, we’d be nothing.”
