Live4ever Presents: The Horse Heads

Horse Heads

Kana Waiwaiku

Who?

I’m Ronaldo, I play guitar and do vocals and in the band we have George on drums, Brad on bass and Josh on guitar too. Cool Thing Records are part of us too.

Where?

Essex, Chelmsford – birthplace of radio and birthplace of The Horse Heads.

Why?

The Cramps, Bad Brains, My Chemical Romance

How?

I was just writing a bunch of songs on an acoustic guitar when I was 16, then I met George in some guy’s shed, then we stole this massive concrete horse head from some man’s garden.

Past?

I’ve worked in Spoons, McDonalds, Deliveroo and I currently study a part-time teaching course. George is a pig trainer, oink oink.

Present?

Loud, straight forward and passionate. Three guys turning up and one guy with something to say.

Future?

Work with other UK artists, get sponsored by KA fruit drinks, get sponsored by Nike.

Did you know?

One time we just played a gig outside Alley Cat Bar in London, we were standing outside and someone had asked George if he plays in a band, to which he said ‘yes’. Although the guy didn’t believe him so he sniffed George’s armpit then walked off.

What’s next?

Carrying on releasing singles until it’s album time, play more shows and attempt to tick off my ambitions list.

Live4ever:

Of all guitar genres, punk is the one that most transcends fashion and as such never goes away. The Horse Heads sit proudly, firmly, comfortably in that lineage. Their latest offering, Questions, is a stark and simple punch to the gutturals, propelled by a new wave bassline and framed around a simple, shouted refrain of ‘leave me alone…all these questions are killing me’, a message always central to punk’s ethos. We’ve much to moan about right now, and The Horse Heads are vital to help us all channel our aggression.
