The reissue of The Smiths‘ 1986 classic The Queen Is Dead has now been confirmed, and will be released on October 5th.

After some details emerged, seemingly a little prematurely, earlier this week, all has now been revealed with the deluxe box-set version carrying a live album recorded at the Great Woods Center For The Performing Arts in Boston in August 1986, and the Queen Is Dead film by Derek Jarman as well as various unheard demos and b-sides. Of these, a first take of There Is A Light That Never Goes Out has been shared online.

“You cannot continue to record and simply hope that your audience will approve, or that average critics will approve, or that radio will approve,” Morrissey reflects.

“You progress only when you wonder if an abnormally scientific genius would approve – and this is the leap The Smiths took with The Queen Is Dead.”
