The Rolling Stones to begin recording new album ‘very, very shortly’

The Rolling Stones are about to begin recording a new album.

While last year’s Blue & Lonesome saw the band returning to their first love via covers of blues staples from artists such as Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and Jimmy Reed, Keith Richards has suggested this next effort could be their first batch of original material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang. “Yes, yes, we are — very, very shortly,” he told Ultimate Classic Rock of their recording plans.

“Cutting some new stuff and considering where to take it next. Blue & Lonesome caught us a little bit by surprise in that we figured it was something we had to do, but we didn’t expect the response.”

The Rolling Stones went to number one in the UK last December with Blue & Lonesome – the first time they’d topped the charts in their homeland since 1994’s Voodoo Lounge.
