Ed Sheeran gets nomination for 2017 Mercury Prize

Mercury Prize 3

This year’s Mercury Prize judging panel have deemed an album containing Galway Girl as worthy of a nomination.

Ed Sheeran‘s magpie of a record Divide is the most high profile name on the 2017 shortlist, judges which included Marcus Mumford and Jamie Cullum clearly delving deep into their musical expertise by putting forward the multi-million selling LP.

Much more pleasing is the nomination for Loyle Carner’s debut effort Yesterday’s Gone, while another gloriously fluid release from Alt-J is also recognised.

The winner of the 2017 Mercury Prize will be announced at a London ceremony on September 14th.
