Michael Eavis has revealed the name of the festival he will stage away from Worthy Farm in 2019.
Last year was full of speculation about the future of Glastonbury – where its long-term future lies, whether a brand new festival would replace the Somerset event or run in conjunction with it – but an interview Eavis has given to Glastonbury FM sheds a bit more light on his plans.
The ‘Variety Bazaar’ festival is to be held in the Midlands two years from now according to Eavis, who said:
“That’s a good name don’t you think? It’s half way to the Midlands from here and there’s only one landowner. I’ve got 22 landowners where I am now. I just wonder whether the next generation will want to negotiate with so many people. It’s a very difficult job to hold it together.”
“I’ve been a risk taker all my life. In 47 years of taking risks, so far touch wood, I haven’t come unstuck. This might be one risk too far, I don’t know.”
With fallow years and new events in its future then, 2017 at least is comfortably familiar for Glastonbury, particularly given Radiohead are the only act so far confirmed to headline.
