Listeners of BBC 6Music have picked Hunky Dory as their favourite David Bowie album.

The voting has been underway during the past few days to mark the approaching first anniversary of the star’s death, and from a list which included other classics such as The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars, Aladdin Sane and Heroes, it’s the 1971 record which came out on top.

“It’s got to be done properly so I’ll be playing it off vinyl,” Gideon Coe has said ahead of a full playback on the station tonight. “Side one, then turn over after Quicksand and play side two. I’ll try to make the transition a smooth one. Really looking forward to it.”

“It’s a lovely record and the whole vote has been a reminder of just how many great albums Bowie made.”
