Slaves’ Laurie Vincent to sell artwork at Edinburgh exhibition next month

Laurie Vincent

Slaves guitarist Laurie Vincent will put his artwork up for sale for the first time at an exhibition in Edinburgh next month.

Having had his first solo exhibition via a special pop-up at London’s Amersham Arms last March, Vincent is to now go a step further during the Edinburgh Fringe, from August 4th at Flaubert Gallery.

We spoke with Laurie after attending that London exhibition, when he told us of his chief influences and aims for this part of his career.

“There’s people like Keith Haring, (Jean-Michel) Basquiat, Raymond Pettibon – the guy that did the Black Flag stuff – that sort of DIY aesthetic,” he said. “Stuff like that. I like Andy Warhol’s attitude. At the moment I think Wes Lang is really cool, just how it’s all collage drawings. I’m quite inspired by that.”

“I want to hopefully get to a gallery one day and actually take painting quite seriously. I just want people to come and see my paintings on the wall and form opinions about them. I think that’s all that any artist can hope for.”
