Kasabian are building their version of John Lennon‘s chair as they continue work on a new album.

“Lennon said The Beatles version of rock and roll was their chair, frontman Tom Meighan has told Q (via NME). “So I thought ‘wow, I want to make my version of that chair.’”

Kasabian are thus apparently going back to basics in their metaphorical, musical carpenter’s studio, an obvious change from the direction of 2014’s occasionally experimental ’48:13’. “Serge played me the demos and I was ‘f***ing hell, it’s nothing like ’48:13’,” Meighan went on. “There’s no f***ing interludes or any of that s**t.”

He also attempted to dampen any overblown hype by declaring new song ‘Put Your Life On It’ “as good as ‘Let It Be’”.

Songwriter Serge Pizzorno has previously pointed to Leicester City’s against-all-odds Premier League title win as an inspiration for the record, a triumph the band celebrated on hometurf last month.
