Paul McCartney has been remembering a ‘lovely guy’ after Tony Barrow died on Saturday (May 14th) at the age of 80.

Barrow was The Beatles‘ press officer between the 1962-1968, pre-Apple days. A former journalist with the Liverpool Echo, he was another key local figure secured Brian Epstein as the Fab Four changed the face of pop music in the 1960s. As such, his passing marks another break of ties to the greatest band of them all.

“Tony Barrow was a lovely guy who helped us in the early years of The Beatles,” Sir Paul has said. “He was super professional but always ready for a laugh. He will be missed but remembered by many of us.”

As well as his association with The Beatles, Barrow also had a professional relationship with acts such as The Kinks, the Bay City Rollers, The Monkees, Tony Bennett and The Jackson Five.

He died at his home in Morecambe, Lancashire of causes which have yet to be publicly confirmed.
