Cage The Elephant frontman Matt Shultz has made his directorial debut on the video for the band’s ‘Tell Me I’m Pretty‘ album track ‘Trouble‘.

“I really wanted to make a video that was like John Wayne or a young Clint Eastwood acting in a Cocteau Play or Ingmar Bergman’s Wild Strawberry’s,” he says of his new hobby. “A metaphorical journey that hopefully people could read between the lines.”

Cage The Elephant will resume US tour dates in Little Rock, AR next month supported by Portugal. the Man and Twin Peaks after releasing ‘Tell Me I’m Pretty’ during the final throes of 2015.

“Bubbling up with a bluesy psychedelic jangle, ‘Cry Baby’ opens the album with tumbling drums and a swirling vocal melody sung by Matthew Shultz,” our review reads. “A fat bass walk down troughs the listener into a swampy sedated outro, before the fuzzy spunk of ‘Mess Around’ snaps you out of the humid haze.”

“With a bluesy shuffle, the latter is clearly influenced by Auerbach’s day job, but he admirably both captures and highlights the group’s signature kooky temperament.”
