Blondie‘s Debbie Harry, former REM frontman Michael Stipe, The Flaming Lips and the Pixies led a tribute concert to David Bowie at Carnegie Hall in New York last night (March 31st).

According to the BBC, Debbie Harry conducted the crowd through a rendition of ‘Starman‘, while the Flaming Lips were typically colourful during their take of ‘Life On Mars‘.

The concert had originally been arranged back on January 10th as a star-studded retrospective on Bowie’s career, but quickly turned into a tribute when the iconic singer’s death was announced on the same day.

A second show will take place tonight and is being streamed live online.

David Bowie passed away just a short time after releasing what proved to be his final album ‘Blackstar‘. His family revealed he had been privately battling cancer for 18 months.

‘Blackstar’ subsequently topped the charts in the UK and, posthumously, became Bowie first number one album in the States.
