The Stone Roses ‘to release new album this summer’

British tabloid The Mirror is claiming the Stone Roses will release a new album to coincide with their 2016 summer tour dates.

For what it’s worth, the paper has its own ‘source’ behind the story, but also says a spokesperson for the band has declined to comment.

“Ian Brown and the lads have been busy getting their next album ready,” the source is quoted as saying. “It will be album number three. It’s a long time coming but they feel the time is right now. They’ve been back in the studio. Everyone is very excited about it.”

The Stone Roses have been talking about new material ever since their first live return was confirmed at a press conference in October 2011.

It was initially thought the subsequent record breaking shows at Heaton Park in Manchester would bare witness to some new music, but another break and another return for festival and headline gigs this summer have still not brought with them any concrete news of a follow-up to 1994’s ‘Second Coming‘.
