The 1975‘s startling rise since their early 2013 singles is now going truly global.

The band have just gone number one in Australia with their second album ‘I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It’, matching the rare trans-Atlantic success which was secured when the LP shifted 98,000 copies Stateside in its first week after being released on February 26th.

“We’re very very humbled by it,” they told the Official Charts Company after hitting number one in the UK. “We’re finding it a bit surreal and weird, we didn’t expect it to go to Number 1, we’re up against people like Adele, so we’re really really proud.”

The 1975 play the third of five shows at London’s Brixton Academy tonight (March 7th) and then move north for four nights apiece at the Manchester Apollo and Glasgow Academy up to March 20th. There’s then an arena date in Birmingham on the 22nd.
