Previously unseen Joe Strummer photograph to go on display

A never-before-seen photograph of the late Clash frontman Joe Strummer will go on display at an exhibition in London later this year.

The snap in question, which can be seen here, will be part of an exhibition showcasing the work of American photographer William Eggleston running at the National Portrait Gallery between July 21st-October 23rd.

“William Eggleston makes memorable photographic portraits of individuals – including friends and family, musicians and artists – that are utterly unique and highly influential,” Nicholas Cullinan, director of the National Portrait Gallery, has said.

“More than this, Eggleston has an uncanny ability to find something extraordinary in the seemingly everyday. Combining well-known works with others previously unseen, this exhibition looks at one of photography’s most compelling practitioners from a new perspective.”

Joe Strummer died suddenly back in 2002 at the age of just 50. It was found he had been suffering with an undiagnosed congenital heart defect.
