Former Rolling Stones bass player Bill Wyman has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, reports The Guardian.

The paper quotes a spokesperson who has said Wyman is currently undergoing treatment and is ‘expected to make a full recovery’.

“He is undergoing treatment and is expected to make a full recovery as it was caught in the early stages,” the statement reads in full. “The Wyman family has asked for their privacy during this time.”

Bill Wyman was an early arrival in the Rolling Stones, joining after an audition towards the end of 1962. His raised playing style became one of the most recognisable aspects of the band, and he remained on board into their days as one of the first blockbuster stadium rock acts before his departure was finally officially announced in 1993.

He has since concentrated on the blues through solo projects and various guest appearances, and has released five studio albums with the Rhythm Kings.
