Muse have confirmed themselves as Glastonbury headliners for 2016.

The band did so via a short message on Twitter, saying they are ‘playing a little show at home’, in the process becoming the first act to top the Pyramid Stage on all three nights having previously headlined Sunday in 2004 and Saturday in 2010 – they’ll close the opening day this time.

Muse join another perennial favourite of organiser Michael Eavis, Coldplay, who’ll be making their fourth bill-topping appearance at Worthy Farm in June.

Also confirmed for Glastonbury 2016 are PJ Harvey, who’s booked for the Other Stage, and Jeff Lynne’s ELO, who will play the hugely popular Sunday tea-time slot.

Already one of the bookies favourites, Muse looked an even more certain bet last week to headline when co-organiser Emily Eavis told the Metro newspaper that all three leading 2016 Pyramid Stage acts will be British.

“We’ve got three brilliant British bands headlining the festival, although I haven’t actually told anyone that yet,” she said.

Radiohead therefore seem like a safe bet to fill the third and final spot, but the likes of Blur and The Stone Roses probably shouldn’t be ruled out just yet either.
