Dave Grohl performed a cover of The Beatles‘ classic White Album track ‘Blackbird‘ during the ‘In Memoriam’ segment of last night’s (February 28th) 88th Academy Awards which remembered, amongst others, the late icon David Bowie who died in January.  Have a watch below.

Meanwhile, the Amy Winehouse film Amy won the Best Documentary Feature Oscar, when director Asif Kapadia paid a glowing tribute to the singer who died in 2011.

“This film is all about Amy,” he said. “This is about showing the world who she really was, not a tabloid persona, the beautiful girl, the amazing soul, funny, intelligent, witty, someone special, someone who needed looking after.”

The 2016 Oscars will probably be best remembered for Leonardo Di Caprio finally triumphing in the Best Actor category for his leading role in The Revenant, though the film did miss out on Best Picture to Tom McCarthy’s real-life drama Spotlight.
