Matt Berninger on The National’s ‘looser’ new album

The National‘s frontman Matt Berninger has gone deeper into the band’s master plan for a new album.

Speaking to the Independent, Berninger revealed they are looking for a looser, but well rehearsed affair following yet another gritty Americana success story on 2013’s ‘Trouble Will Find Me‘.

“We’re trying to get in a room together more often for the next record and that’s been really fun, not tinkering over things obsessively on our own,” he’s said. “We’ve been getting a lot of loose ideas together and just getting in a room and f*cking around and having a blast for like a week.”

“We also want to play a lot of songs live before we record them this time as it can help us better figure them out.”

Last week, The National were confirmed as headliners for Ireland’s Longitude Festival on its final night, July 17th.
