New Order ‘disappointed’ after reports Peter Hook is suing for ‘millions of pounds’

The members of New Order have said they are ‘obviously disappointed’ after reports emerged yesterday (November 30th) that their estranged former bass player Peter Hook is suing for alleged unpaid royalties.

“Obviously the band are disappointed that Peter is pursuing this claim in this particular way,” a statement issued to NME responds.

It has been claimed that Hook is seeking ‘millions of pounds’ after he says a company was set up to handle the band’s income after he left.

“The reports so far take a number of things out of context. Peter still, for instance, receives his full share of all back catalogue royalties,” the statement continues. “This dispute relates only to the share of income he takes from our work without him since 2011.”

“Not much more we can say as nothing has been decided by the Court on the facts other than he has a right to proceed with the claim, so this matter is still in play.”

New Order reunited without Hook in 2011 initially for live shows in Brussels and Paris. They released the brand new studio album ‘Music Complete‘ earlier this year.

Hook has looked to clarify his position with his own statement, issued to Rolling Stone, which begins:

“I’m naturally delighted with the decision made on my application to the High Court in London last week. It found in my favor and justifies the stance I have taken.  The Judge made a number of important points when giving his judgment and rejected a lot of the Defendants’ submissions.”
