The National discuss ‘harsher’ new album

National

The National have offered a fresh update on the progress of their next studio album, which guitarist and lead creative driver Aaron Dessner has said is sounding ‘a little bit harsher’.

Dessner’s comments draw a line back to plans he presented to NME way back in 2013 when spoke of chasing a ‘very raw, un-produced’ record.

“We’re not afraid, I think, to write hooks now,” he’s told Stereogum.

“I think we’re actually writing in a room together more than we ever did,” frontman Matt Berninger also said. “We’re excited about that. It’s changing the National, the way we’re doing it.”

The National have debuted the new song ‘Roman Candle‘ live after first revealing work had started on a seventh LP at ‘a camp out retreat in New York’ in August.

Berninger has been keeping himself busy with Menomena‘s Brent Knopf who released the album ‘Return To The Moon‘ under the name EL VY.
