Dave Gilmour has no desire to return to Pink Floyd again, declaring the band ‘done’.
Gilmour, together with drummer Nick Mason, kept the Pink Floyd flame flickering as they revisited the 1994 ‘Division Bell‘ sessions for last year’s ‘The Endless River‘ album, when contributions from the late Richard Wright were also used.
Before then, the band staged a brief reunion for Live 8 back in 2005, while Gilmour more recently joined Roger Waters onstage at the O2 during the latter’s re-imagined Wall tour for a spine-tingling performance of ‘Comfortably Numb‘ (you really should check out the video below).
However, the death of keyboard player Wright in 2008, together with his desire to simply ‘do whatever I really want to do in life’, means the story of one of Britain’s most successful rock groups is likely to end here.
“To do it without Rick would just be wrong,” Gilmour told Classic Rock magazine. “I absolutely don’t want to go back. I don’t want to go and play stadiums under the Pink Floyd banner. I’m free to do exactly what I want to do and how I want to do it.”
“Obviously I accept there are people who want to go and see and hear this legend that was Pink Floyd, but I’m afraid that’s not my responsibility.”
