Courtney Barnett will lead a celebration of Patti Smith‘s pre-punk classic ‘Horses‘ at the Melbourne Festival in October.

40 years on from its release, which cleared the way for a punk explosion in New York and London just a few months later, Barnett will perform the album in full along with Jen Cloher, Magic Dirt‘s Adalita and The DronesGareth Liddiard at the Melbourne Town Hall. The Melbourne Festival itself takes place between October 8th-25th.

“Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the album’s release, four of Australia’s most insightful and respected rock artists — Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher, founding Magic Dirt member Adalita and The Drones lead man Gareth Liddiard — unite to perform Horses in its entirety,” festival organisers say.

“An act of heartfelt homage that promises to be both hypnotic and exhilarating.”

Courtney Barnett has forged her own influential path since the release of debut album ‘Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit‘ in March.
