Chvrches promising more of the same after completing second album

Chvrches have completed work on their second album, and it seems they haven’t moved too far at all from the formula which carried their 2013 debut ‘The Bones Of What You Believe‘ to the UK Top 10.

“After making one record that people really like, some bands reject the things that everyone liked about them and make some really deep, thoughtful, dark record – but I wanted to avoid making a ‘mature’ album,” Martin Doherty has told Pitchfork.

The mood hasn’t changed, and neither has the location; Doherty, along with bandmates Iain Cook and Lauren Mayberry, returned to the same basement flat where much of their music has been created since they formed back in 2011.

“That said, it’s not like we’re making saccharine shite,” Doherty continued. “There’s important lyrical content, and we’re still pushing the same emotional boundaries, but also trying to make it as accessible as possible.”
