Mick Jagger paid tribute to BB King during The Rolling Stones‘ first ever Twitter Q&A yesterday (May 18th).

King, one of the blues’ seminal exponents, died in his sleep last week and, as frontman of the band which started life performing blues covers on the London circuit, Jagger took the opportunity to remember one of his chief inspirations.

“I was just looking at a picture of me and B.B. backstage at Madison Square Garden,” he wrote. “He played with us at a lot of gigs on that tour. We last played with him in a blues concert at the White House. It’s sad. He had such a huge, long career. It’s sad that we won’t be listening to him live anymore.”

Keith Richards also left his own tribute, describing King as ‘one of the greats’. “B.B. was a great guy,” he added. “He was one of the true gentlemen, and I shall miss him a lot. At least we have his records. Farewell, B.B.”

The rest of the session lacked a big ‘special announcement’ which had been rumoured, though a full live bonus CD was confirmed for the ‘Sticky Fingers‘ reissue.
