Catfish & The Bottlemen will replace the stricken Sam Smith on the Main Stage of this year’s Radio 1 Big Weekend event.

Sam Smith has damaged vocal chords and has cancelled all live activity, meaning Catfish & The Bottlemen make their move from the In New Music We Trust second stage.

“It’s mad for us just playing, never mind being moved to the Main Stage, because we did the Introducing stage last year,” frontman Van McCann told BBC Newsbeat.

“Because we’ve only got half an hour, we’re just going to play the biggest tunes. We probably won’t even play our new single ‘Hourglass’, because that’s the acoustic one and it involves people coming on and off stage.”

Lethal Bizzle will fill the slot vacated by McCann’s band, and has remarked: “I’m really looking forward to it. You can expect a high-energy set and maybe a few exclusives. It’s going to be dench.”
