The UK’s Official Charts Company has for the first time launched a chart compiled entirely from sales on the vinyl format.

Since 2012, the UK Record Store Chart has closely reflected vinyl sales in taking its figures from sales on all formats registered at 100 independent music shops, but the launch of both the Official Vinyl Albums Chart and the Official Vinyl Singles Chart today (April 13th), means the format will now be specifically documented every week.

The charts’ launch has been celebrated with the release of both the biggest selling albums and singles on the vinyl format in Britain so far this year, both of which are led by Noel Gallagher.

The former Oasis man’s second solo album ‘Chasing Yesterday‘ heads Led Zeppelin‘s ‘Physical Graffiti‘ on the former, while he’s at #1 and #2 on the latter with ‘Ballad Of The Mighty I‘ and the promo release ‘The Dying Of The Light‘.
