Pete Doherty gives update on new Libertines album

Pete Doherty has suggested The Libertines won’t be shy in returning to old, unfinished ideas as they continues to work on a first studio album since 2004.

The 2014 live return, and Doherty’s recent successful stint at a drug rehabilitation facility in Thailand, has inspired the four bandmates to finally craft a follow-up to the self-titled album which became a document of their messy demise.

And Doherty has told NME they may pick up where they left off a decade ago as they ‘threw away’ many tunes back then. “We always had the tunes but we threw away so many,” he said.

“Some sneaked out as internet giveaways or they weren’t recorded properly. So this is a chance for us to make a record rather than somebody just stapling loads of bits together.”

“I can’t say that I’ve been able to listen properly to what we did, because some part of me doesn’t want to engage with it,” he continued on how the new record may stand-up to their earlier material. “But whilst I’ve been clean I’ve tried to listen to some of it. If we can pick up from where we left off 10 years ago, fuck what anyone else thinks.”
