After signing to Mute Records in September last year, New Order have told Rolling Stone work is progressing well on a new album which should be released in the autumn.

According to drummer Stephen Morris, two tracks entitled ‘Plastic‘ and ‘Restless‘ have been completed, the latter of which features a contribution from The Chemical BrothersTom Rowlands.

When news of New Order’s signing to Mute broke, the label’s founder Daniel Miller paid a glowing tribute to the band. “This is an exciting new chapter for both Mute and New Order and I feel privileged to be working with artists with such a long, creative and successful history,” he gushed.

“When the possibility of us working together first came up, I was invited to hear some of the new material and immediately had no doubts whatsoever that Mute would be the right home for New Order. We’ve already had a number of creative conversations, and I am looking towards an exciting future.”
