The Libertines have given us a little snapshot of their recent stay in Thailand, where a new record deal with Virgin EMI was signed last week.

Pete Doherty was the first to visit the country as part of his rehabilitation from drug addiction, and he has since been joined out there by Carl Barat for writing sessions, as promised by the pair when they reunited for British Summer Time in July.

With Gary Powell and John Hassall completing the line-up in the far east, news of the record deal in anticipation of a new album next year was confirmed on Friday (December 5th), when Doherty remarked: “I don’t know what to say, I’m so happy. It was a beautiful day,” and Carl Barât added: “After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, I couldn’t be more excited.”

The aforementioned gig for British Summer Time at London’s Hyde Park was named as the Headline Performance Of The Year at the 2014 UK Festival Awards, beating other high profile concerts such as Metallica at Glastonbury and Arctic Monkeys at Reading/Leeds in the process.
