Ray Davies has revealed he recorded ‘a few demos’ with Dave Davies last Christmas, but again said the ongoing rivalry between his brother and Kinks drummer Mick Avory remains the biggest stumbling block in the way of a reunion for the band.

It was during the summer of 2013 when the siblings’ famously tempestuous relationship eased thanks to a series of meetings between the pair, leading to hopes that The Kinks could make a return to the stage for the first time since 1996.

And it seems those meet-ups led to new ideas being thrown around too, as Ray told Rolling Stone: “We actually put down a few demos last Christmas,” he said. “He came to see me, and he played me a couple of new songs.”

However, he added that the bad blood between Dave and Mick, which has been running almost as long as his own, is still standing in the way of a live comeback.

“Over the years, I’ve been doing a few new tracks with Mick, our original drummer,” he added. “You know about the war between Dave and Mick.”

“I don’t work for the United Nations. I’m just a musician. I had a drink with Mick last week and I asked, ‘What happened to you guys?’. They shared a house in the 1960s. I think some things went on there that created a rivalry.”
