Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre will host a one-off tribute concert in memory of George Harrison later this month with all proceeds from the evening going towards Sweet Relief – a charity which offers financial support to musicians.

Amongst those who will play a part in ‘George Fest: A Night To Celebrate The Music Of George Harrison’ on September 28th are Flaming Lips pair Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd, Brian Wilson, Brandon Flowers and Mark Stoermer of The Killers, Norah Jones, members of The Strokes and Weezer, and Cold War Kids, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Cult and Velvet Revolver.

The concert is announced just after details of a new compilation entitled ‘George Harrison: The Apple Years 1968-75‘ were confirmed earlier this week. The collection will see the late Beatles legend’s first six solo albums brought together, all restored from the original master tapes under the supervision of George’s son Dhani, who has remarked:

“Some of these records have long been out of print, and so I cannot wait for music lovers to get their hands on these newly remastered versions. It’s a very proud moment for us, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped us in any way to achieve this.”
