The Killers closed the Chelmsford leg of V Festival last night (August 17th) after the Manic Street Preachers had been forced to cancel their own appearance at the Essex event, and were instead left stranded on a Budapest airport.

The Manics had been due in Hylands Park to play immediately before MTV Stage headliners Elbow on Saturday evening, but were left high and dry in the aftermath of a performance at Sziget Festival.

“With huge regret, Manic Street Preachers announce the cancellation of their scheduled V Festival show in Chelmsford today (August 16th),” the band said.

“After 5 hours on runway at Budapest Airport following Sziget Festival last night, MSP were informed the BA plane they were on would not fly. The band made every endeavour to get back to the UK in time to play. The band apologise to their fans at V Chelmsford for the cancellation.”

The Killers had no such problems, and were at Hylands Park yesterday having already topped the sister-site in Staffordshire a day earlier. That gig included a cover of Iggy AzaleaFancy‘ (fan footage below), and stone-cold classics in the shape of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Bad Moon Rising‘ and The Rolling Stones’ ‘Ruby Tuesday‘.
