The Cribs have enlisted Ric Ocasek of The Cars to produce their new album.

“He doesn’t do records like a gun for hire; he chooses a band,” Ryan Jarman says during an interview with NME.

“We’ve been trying to get him since the third record, now he thinks we’re definitely good enough.”

“We’ve got enough songs for it, we’re just finalising things: we’ll record in October,” brother Gary adds. “It’s influenced by all the stuff we’ve been listening to – The Replacements and 80s pop basically.”

During the chat, Gary Jarman also outlines the band’s plans for their new single, and expects it to be the first track they wrote for the album. “The one we’ve earmarked for the first single is the first song we wrote for the album, which never happens,” he adds. “It’s a big, fuzzy pop song. We call it ‘the geek rock one’.”
