Portishead will re-release their classic debut album ‘Dummy‘ later this year to mark its 20th anniversary.

The first 1,000 copies sold will be pressed on blue vinyl when pre-orders begin via the band’s official website tomorrow (August 13th). After that, the vinyl-only reissue will come on heavyweight black with a gatefold sleeve, but the versions will not have any bonus material.

Released in October 1994, ‘Dummy’ would go on to peak at #2 on the UK Album Chart and win the 1995 Mercury Music Prize, pipping the likes of Oasis‘ ‘Definitely Maybe‘ and PJ Harvey‘s ‘To Bring You My Love‘ in the process.

Meanwhile, speaking to the Quietus at the By:Larm Festival in Oslo earlier this year, Adrian Utley reaffirmed the band’s desire to record more new material after ‘Third‘ brought a decade-long wait for a new album to an end in 2008.

“We’re clearing our schedules so we can get on with it, otherwise it will be another ten years,” he said, adding that he and Geoff Barrow are, ‘Both really enthusiastic, and enthusiasm counts for a lot in Portishead world’.
