It’s been around three years, but The Strokes will play a headline gig in New York at the end of this month to warm-up for their appearance at the Governors Ball festival in June.

The band, who have remained inactive as far as touring is concerned despite releasing two studio albums in as many years thanks to 2011’s ‘Angles‘ at last year’s ‘Comedown Machine‘, will play the 1,800 capacity Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on May 31st. This taking place not long before Governors Ball is held at Randall’s Island Park in New York City between June 6th-8th.

“We have tried to book The Strokes every single year that Gov Ball has existed,” festival organisers said when booking The Strokes.

“They essentially have had an open invite to play when they wanted. We got a call from their agent at the very last minute, saying that they wanted to reunite and play at the festival. Dream come true for us. We’re New York City kids, and they are the greatest NYC rock band of our generation.”
