The Rolling Stones, U2 ‘top live artists of the past 25 years’

Veteran acts such as The Rolling Stones, U2 and Bruce Springsteen dominate a list of the highest grossing tours of the last 25 years.

Figures released by Billboard put the Stones top during the period of 1990-2014, having amassed a fortune of $1,565,792,382 from the 538 live shows they have played during that period, performing to a total of over 19 million people.

U2, whose 360 world tour of 2009-2011 is the highest grossing of all time, are second on this list with a $1,514,979,793 fortune from 526 shows, while Bruce Springsteen is third.

Further back, Sir Paul McCartney is 13th on the list having played to an audience of more than 5 million people during the last quarter century, amassing $505,534,809 in the process. This year’s Glastonbury headliners, Metallica, are at #17.
