Carl Barat played his inaugural gig with new band The Jackals on May 13th at The Bowery District in Reading, reports NME.

Ahead of what is considered their more high profile bow in London tonight, original material was liberally smattered around Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things tracks – giving fans a little taster of what to expect when Barat reunites with Pete Doherty and the rest of his Libertines bandmates for a headline appearance at British Summertime in July.

“I thought it was fucking belting,” Barat told NME. “There was so much energy waiting to come out. We’ve come together at quite a steady pace, there’s definitely a massive connection and when we went out there tonight it was definitely us as a band, come rain or shine we were going to do what we were going to do. My biggest intention was for it to be the boys’ band, not for it to be an identikit of previous bands.”
