Carl Barat has lined up the first gig with his new band The Jackals ahead of an expected album release in September.

The group, which was handpicked by Barat from over 1,000 Facebook applications and consists of guitarist Billy Tessio, bassist Adam Claxton and drummer Jay Bone, will play the XOYO venue in London on May 15th.

Barat had been planning a second solo record last year, but abruptly turned away from that path as he apparently missed the shared experience of being in a band following his previous incarnations with The Libertines and Dirty Pretty Things.

“I want other people to have the same priorities and objectives when they come on stage – I don’t want people looking at their watches thinking about how much they’re getting paid,” he explained to NME. “I want everyone to be together. I guess in a band have these allies around you. It’s about being part of something that’s bigger than its individual parts.”
