Carl Barat has opened up the possibility of The Libertines writing new material in time for their Hyde Park comeback this summer.

During an interview with The Independent, Barat says he will meet up with his ‘brother’ Pete Doherty this week as their band gears up for a first live outing since 2010.

“We’re brothers, we still finish each other’s sentences,” he said. “I’m seeing Pete next week and we’ll get the guitars out. Hopefully we’ll come up with some new songs for Hyde Park.”

“It’s a tough time for bands to make a living,” he continued on the financial incentive of returning to headline the British Summertime Festival. “It’s messed up for musicians. City bankers and footballers earn hundreds of thousands a week but a show like this is a one-off. And we pay tax on it.”

Barat and Doherty, along with John Hassall and Gary Powell, had a first reunion for the 2010 Reading/Leeds festival after the group’s fractious demise was confirmed in 2004 soon after Doherty’s departure and the release of their self-titled second album.
