Are AC/DC ready to retire from music?

There are conflicting reports today as to whether AC/DC are on the verge of announcing their retirement from music after nearly four decades.

Rumours earlier this week emanating from Australian media suggested the veteran hard rock band are ready to call it a day due to ill health being suffered by guitarist Malcolm Young.

And despite Billboard quickly citing several sources as saying those stories are untrue, Choirboys frontman Mark Gable – a friend of Malcolm and Angus Young – has apparently told Australia’s ABC Radio the following:

“From what I understand, and it’s even been confirmed in part by his son Ross, it would appear Malcolm is unable to perform any more. It’s not just that he is unwell, it’s that it is quite serious. It will constitute that he definitely won’t be able to perform live. He will probably not be able to record.”

Frontman Brian Johnson has previously spoken of the band’s desire to mark their 40th anniversary with a new album and world tour, and quoted by the Daily Telegraph today, he insists again: “We’re going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas. If anything happens, we’ll record it.”
