Broken Bells, with a little help from some vintage Ringo Starr footage, performed a cover of the early Beatles classic ‘And I Love Her‘ live on David Letterman’s US chat at the start of this week.

With a tiny sprinkling of ‘I Am The Walrus‘ thrown in for good measure, Danger Mouse and The ShinsJames Mercer – who have their own album ‘After The Disco‘ out this week – played their part in the week-long celebrations coming live from the Ed Sullivan Theater marking 50 years since The Beatles’ US television debut on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Paul McCartney and Ringo made a rare live appearance together at the Grammy Awards last month, shortly before a TV special was recorded in recognition of the impact their band made on pop music five decades ago.

“As the Grammy Awards are ‘Music’s Biggest Night,’ it’s only fitting that we recognize this milestone moment in music history and pay tribute to this larger-than-life group and their enduring music and legacy,” Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy, has said.
