Kurt Cobain Day announced in Aberdeen, Washington

kurtcobainsqThe town of Aberdeen in Washington, where Kurt Cobain was born on February 20th 1967, is to hold a special commemorative day in memory of the late Nirvana frontman.

The full plans will be made official on February 12th ahead of the first ever Kurt Cobain Day on the 20th – Mayor Bill Simpson is said to be hoping to make the event a ‘traditional date in Aberdeen’s calendar’.

“Aberdeen residents may justifiably take pride in the role our community played in the life of Kurt Cobain and the international recognition our community has gained from its connections with Kurt Cobain and his artistic achievements,” the city council remarks.

Meanwhile, the nearby town of Hoquiam – where Cobain spent a small part of his formative years – has plans for its own special day on April 10th – a date which is also due to see Nirvana being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
