Rolling Stone writer Will Hermes is aiming to tell the ‘full, definitive’ story of Lou Reed in a new biography on the late Velvet Underground frontman.

Lou: A New York Life will be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux on an as-yet-unconfirmed date in the future and, as the title suggests, is to focus on the impact which New York City had on Reed after he moved there in 1964, when he soon became drawn to both the lifestyle and characters of the Big Apple’s dark underworld.

“Reed loved the city deeply, based his adult life here, rooted much of his work here and was a huge figure in our cultural life,” Hermes told the New York Times. “I think we have yet to fully measure the loss. He was one of the greatest artists of our generation.”

Lou Reed died in October last year at the age of 71 after suffering from liver disease.
